Tugas Mata Kuliah Menulis - Descriptive Essay

Yakuza Like A Dragon is the eighth entry in the Yakuza series, a game that provides a breath of fresh air for old fans while also attracting a large number of new fans. Like A Dragon marks the end of Kiryu's saga and introduces a new protagonist, Kasuga Ichiban. Overall, it's a good game, but there are also some fans that despise the innovations that this game brings.

The story focuses on Kasuga Ichiban, a cheerful ex-yakuza who spent 15 years in prison for proving his loyalty to his boss, whom he adores and sees as a father. But when he got out of prison, everything changed and his boss don't even recognize him and his family known as a traitor to his clan. The protagonist switch is a bit problematic at first because we've played as Kiryu for almost 7 games.

The gameplay of this game is where the game felt like a "yay or nay" for the fans or the newcomers. Yakuza is originally a beat-'em-up game in which we mash our button through enemies with sick combos, switching between light and heavy attack variations. But in Like A Dragon, we need to think about how to strategically attack and defend because the game developer changed the game to a turn-based RPG. We also need to grind so we can make Ichiban and his friends as strong as they can be.

We can't talk about Yakuza games if we don't talk about the minigames, and this is where Like A Dragon is considered worthy as a part of the Yakuza series. For example, we could run a business with a chicken as our financial advisor. And for the side missions, it still has the charm of its predecessor. For a minute, you're laughing while fighting a giant vacuum cleaner, and a few moments later, you're crying after having a date with a girl who loved you for a long time but she actually died a long time ago.

Even after every backlash that this game has at the start of its release, the game has its place for the fans. Ichiban is quite acceptable by the fans and some considered him as a "more expressive" protagonist than Kiryu, his story and character development are nicely written, the gameplay mechanics are considered fun and fresh for the newcomers and JRPG fans to try. It's an enjoyable experience if you give it some time. And before you know it, you're having a blast fighting chimpanzee on a bulldozer.
